This is Nancy, she has 2 children, a boy who has gone through to class 8 but failed to continue with his studies due to a lack of funds. Nancy was brought to our attention when one of us noticed she was living in a shack with her kids. She had made this herself using whatever materials she could find; cardboard boxes and plastic polythene among other things, on a small corner of a piece of land given to her for a brief period.

Upon getting to know her we discovered she is a victim of domestic violence, and the husband threw her and the children out of the house, which led to the girl dropping out of school at that time.

The 1st step we took was to rent her a single room to get her out of the shack. We committed to rent her the first 7 months as we help her get back to her feet.

We were able to connect her with a group that helps victims of abuse for emotional support through counseling and also got a counselor for one on one to journey with her. For the children, we tried to help them get back to school but they had been out for a while it seems they had given up on that path of education.

Nancy is a hardworking woman despite her challenge she does laundry for people and is raising her children to be responsible.’

Attached are her photos in the house that we rented for her. The carpet was a donation from one of the members to help the house keep warm.
